Future Squirrel Dogs!

Gray's Six Shooter Simon x Gray's Prairie Daisy (about 5 weeks old)

Future Squirrel Dogs!

YARD WORK!

I have been doin' some yard work with Rosie and Colter. If you have trained bird dogs, it is similar to working them on a wing.

Usually, I use weedeater cord to tie around the squirrel but I am out...Been weedeating! bash-smiley.gif

You can use a squirrel tail to tease the pup and improve interest. The point is to get the pups to understand what you want them to smell for and chase when you take them to the timber.

This isn't something I do all the time, just to get a pup excited. As you can see from the pictures, they really like it!

A fishing pole is great if you are just using a squirrel tail. smileyvault-wiggle.gif

Update on Gray's Kit Carson

It's been a while since I posted much about Carson. He's doin' well, treeing. He's an intelligent young dog. Minds really well and I let him run loose around my farm so he can hunt at his leisure. Lately, he has been showing some pups the ropes!

Carson is out of Gray's Lone Ranger x Gray's Annie Oakley. Annie is now owned by Bud Slayton (TN-Budro).

Upcoming litter out of Gray's Lone Ranger!

Gray's Lone Ranger was bred to Minnie on March 29th. She is a good, 4 year old, local feist female that hunts out to about 200 yards. Around 25 pounds. Barger stock bred.
I talked to her owner yesterday and the breeding most definitely took!

For additional information about this upcoming litter, please contact Lewis Stinson at 434-547-9894.

Thanks!

Bella is growin' up!

Here is an updated picture of Gray's Bella Starr for everyone that wanted to see one. She is still smaller than my male feist dogs. She is about 20-25 lbs right now. She is chasin' squirrels and takin' names! Ranging out between 50 and 200 yards now.

Introducing GRAY'S JOHN COLTER

I want to thank Jason Harris (Goodtime Mountain Feist) for the opportunity to own a fine pup out of SQCH CH Harris' Thunder Buzz (one win away from Grand) x GRSQCH GRCH TRCH Harris' Goodtime Ginger. Whew, that's a lot of letters! :whistling:

The little male pup is already doin' well "keepin' up with the big dogs". He likes to sit on my boot when I stop walkin in the timber. I take that as a good sign since all the dogs I have owned that do that when they are tiny end up making squirrel dogs that are in tune to what you want them to do and hunt FOR you. Anyone that has had a dog hunt for you, rather than themselves understands what I mean. :twocents:

I am callin' this little dude, Gray's John Colter. Some of you may have heard about John Colter, he was a mountain man. Born in Augusta County, VA...Member of the Lewis & Clark Expedition...First European in the Yellowstone area...mapped extensive areas of the West...the inspiration for the movie "The Naked Prey" in which the real John Colter was forced to run for his life ahead of a pack of Blackfoot braves after his companion, John Potts (also a member of the Lewis & Clark Expedition), was dismembered in front of him.

Updated Pup Picture

Here is an updated picture of the Simon x Daisy pups! They are growing like weeds!!! The pup in the center (on top of another one) is going to North Carolina and the pup on the far left is going to Maryland. The remaining three males are unspoken for at the time.
