Gray Wildlife Management

Let me bring my experience to your favorite Virginia property. We can discuss your priorities for the land and how to maximize its wildlife potential.

I can develop a prescription for a single stand of trees or a comprehensive habitat plan that lays out exactly how to best foster your priorities and meet your needs for diverse habitats.

Even if you are limited in the amount of habitat changes you can make, let's talk about managing the wildlife populations directly to make the most of what you have!

Squirrel season is ramping up!

The leaves are coming down and I have been taking the dogs to the timber as much as I can with my schedule. If you haven't seen it already, we have a FACEBOOK PAGE (Gray's Mountain Feist). I regularly post pictures on there and hold discussions on the Gray's Feist MESSAGE BOARD about upcoming events, hunt results, landscape pictures and more.

Ranger got 5th place in the AM Squirrel Hunt at the Old Dominion Squirrel & Coon Club this weekend.

Daisy is coming out of heat and treed 12 in an hour for me the other day!

The young dogs are learning a lot and doing their share of chasing and treeing squirrels. Check out these pictures of Carson, Rosie and Colter!!!!!!

Jess pointed out that it had been several months since I updated the main website. So, I did just that. Check it out and see what's going on and what squirrel dog prospects we have available.

The 9 month old female, Bella is a nice Treeing Cur that I have been working and she is available. More details on the website above.

Another great report from VA this time

This young dog is called "Tex." He is out of the same little as Wyatt and Queenie (Six Shooter Simon x Gray's Prairie Daisy) that is doing so well for their age. I am glad to get these Gray's Feist pups into the hands of people that give them the opportunity for them to reach their full potential. Tex's new family is working him on squirrels, teaching him to track big game after they are shot and he is making his grandsire Gray's Trigger proud by learning to water retrieve!

Tex is a testiment to the versatility of the Mountain Feist.

Happy Hunting Grounds

Been doing some scouting during the early season for spots to hit after the leaves fall. Been finding good locations in the mountains while knocking "the rust" off of the dogs. It looks like we are blessed with another good mast year and decent numbers of young squirrels. Should make training a snap!

Ranger ZOOOMING back to me to check in.

Rosie listening for movement on the ground.
I have been rotating the dogs so everyone gets "woods time." The older dogs (Daisy and Ranger) need to sharpen back up. Carson needs to continue making progress and of course the pups have a lot to learn! All the young dogs are making leaps and bounds toward making squirrel dogs. I am VERY ready for the leaves to fall off to reinforce the good progress the dogs are making and tighten up the old dogs on tree.

The competition season is rapidly approaching and has already started in many states. We plan on traveling some this year to new areas and making sure to swing by some of the old spots. See y'all in the timber!

Report from a satisfied Gray's Feist hunter in NC

"Hey Marc, River Queen is ready for these leaves to drop! She is 14 inches tall and weighs 15lbs now. I've still taking her out in the woods a few hours everyday and it shows very well. She has been treeing on her own since Aug. 29th and the concept of "yard squirrels" is a joke to her, they don't last long! Our season opens in 11 days and I am really looking foward to turning her loose in the big timber. I'm hoping to start competition hunting her when she gets a little older."

*Her littermate brother is still for sale*

Gray's Wyatt Earp - Looking for a new home
